Dear Michael,
my favourite book is Plato's "Republic", which describes the different forms of government and it's natural run-down.
It's a long read. I have heard it as a radio play with Leo MacKern in the title role. This made it so much more interesting, that I went back to read it all again, now with a better total picture to start off with.
In this age of democracy, when democracy is forced by the largest democracy onto other nations, it soon will follow the natural progression into tyranny. The tyranny of Globalism.
Then follows anarchy, absence of government. After a long period a new philosopher king will arise (the long awaited messiah?) under whom all nations will enjoy peace. Then the run-down through Timocracy and Oligarchy to Democracy sets on again.
Only conscious intervention can change the duration of each period.
This book explains the present situation quite clearly to me.
I chose this area of history, as I have found no other more suitable one.
Best regards,
Manfred Schoen<!-- Touched by JuLiA -->
